Finding It Mid-Season

It didn’t start the way he wanted.

Like a lot of players early in the year, Jaxson Black was working through timing, rhythm, and execution. Some performances were solid. Some weren’t. The results didn’t always reflect the work.

But he didn’t chase it.

He stayed consistent—and waited for it to come together.

“You’re going to have good days and bad days, and you just keep showing up and trying to get a little better each opportunity.”

Jaxson Black, Student-Athlete//St. Pius X

That showed up this week.

April 9th vs Central

This is where it clicked.

5 IP | 3 H | 1 ER | 2 BB | 10 K

Central scored early. No panic.

From there, Black settled in and started taking over the game—working ahead, missing barrels, and keeping everything under control.

It wasn’t loud. It was steady. And that’s what made it effective.

The Type of Player He Is

Black doesn’t rely on one thing.

He competes.

Stays composed after giving up runs

Doesn’t speed up when innings get messy

Contributes beyond the mound (sac fly in this game)

He’s also playing high-level travel ball with St. Louis Naturals 2028 Erger, continuing to develop against strong competition.

There’s consistency in how he shows up.

Multi-Sport Factor

Black is also a varsity football player, and it shows.

That kind of background builds a different level of toughness:

Short memory

Physical presence

Ability to compete under pressure

You see it when things don’t go perfectly—he resets and keeps going.

What the Season Is Showing

This performance didn’t come out of nowhere.

18 strikeouts on the season

Top 20 in Missouri (MSHSAA) in wins

#1 in Class 3 in wins

And the key stat:

St. Pius X is undefeated when he allows three hits or fewer.

When he’s in control, they win.

Devoted Take™

This is what development actually looks like.

Not instant success. Not perfect starts.

Progress.

Black didn’t try to force results early in the season. He stayed with it, kept showing up, and let the game come back to him.

Most players get frustrated and speed up.

He didn’t.

And when it finally clicked, he was ready for it.
